Accessibility
A castle everyone can enter
We aim for the WCAG 2.2 AAA standard — the highest level — across the whole site. Where our design can't meet it by default, a setting does. Nothing on this page needs you to use it; it's here so you know it's there.
Comfort & accessibility settings
Open them from the round Aa button at the bottom-left of every page, from the menu, or from the footer. Changes apply straight away and are remembered on this device. Your device's "reduce motion" and "increase contrast" settings are followed automatically.
Quick profiles
- Cognitive & learning — Fewer distractions.
- Seizure safe — No motion or flicker.
- Dyslexia — Easier reading.
- Low vision — Bigger and bolder.
Every setting
- Motion: Calm stops drifting clouds, twinkles, and moving text.
- Texture: Off removes the grain and the decorative stars for a quieter page.
- Contrast: High uses solid backgrounds and deeper colours everywhere.
- Text size: Scales every piece of text on the site.
- Font: Readable uses Atkinson Hyperlegible, with letters that are hard to mix up.
- Spacing: Relaxed adds room between letters, words and lines.
- Links: Underlined makes every link easy to spot.
- Tap size: Larger gives every link at least 44 × 44 pixels, including the footer.
- Messages: Choose whether pop-up messages fade on their own.
Built in for everyone
- Text and buttons meet 7:1 contrast (AAA); focus is always shown with a clear ring.
- Everything works with a keyboard, a switch or a screen reader; the menu, cart and dialogs keep focus inside them and return it when they close.
- Buttons and controls are at least 44 × 44 pixels.
- Form labels stay visible while you type; required fields are marked; nothing is submitted without you pressing a button.
- No flashing, no sound, no pop-ups when you arrive, and nothing changes page or closes on its own.
- Messages can be closed, pause while you read them, and can be set to stay.
- Moving text pauses when you hover it; Calm motion stops all movement.
Where the default design falls short
- The phone footer follows our compact design, so its links are closer together than 44 pixels. Tap targets: Larger spaces them out.
- Brand copy is written in our own voice and isn't simplified to a lower-secondary reading level (AAA 3.1.5). If anything is unclear, ask us — we're happy to explain.
- Payment and checkout happen on Shopify's checkout pages, which have their own accessibility.
- The Cloud Castle wordmark is lettering in an image; it's a logo and always has a text label.
